Developing the Total Boy for Christ
The Value of Royal Rangers to Me
By Lam Kah Leong
My name is Lam Kah Leong I am 16 years old
and I am from the Expedition Ranger Outpost. This is my testimony. The
Royal Rangers programme has helped me in a lot of ways, not only
physically but also spiritually, mentally and sociable. I started
joining the programme since I was 10 years old. Throughout my Rangers
life it has helped me to grow closer to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Through Bible studies that are
conducted at the meetings and through the process of achieving the
Bible Merit, it has helped me in my spiritual walk. It has taught
me that reading the Bible is essential to strengthen my walk with
the Lord so that I can cope with peer pressure in school and avoid
falling into the sinful ways of this wicked world. It has also
taught me to live my life according to God’s will. It has given me
an assurance of God’s unfailing love for me and I know that He
will never leave me nor forsake me in times of trouble. He is
always there for me.
The
Royal Rangers programme has also help me a lot in my social life.
I used to be a timid and lonely person. I will only make friend
with a person who makes the first move to get to know me. I also
have the problem of having nothing to talk about. Every time I
meet people I seem to go ‘blank’. But now through the activities
of the Royal Rangers programme such as giving a testimony, doing a
skit, a yell, a song, a cheer, prayer and lots more, I have
learned to have more self confidence and this has helped my self
esteem. I also have become more creative and a thinking person
when I am talking to my friends or other people.
By participating in the Royal
Ranger activities, I have learned to be more of an outdoor kind of
a person.
Merits such as
Wilderness Survival, Rock Climbing, Swimming and lots more have
shown me God’s beautiful creation. Cooking, Bachelor, Camping,
First Aid and Family Life Merits have helped me tremendously in my
living skills which for me was lacking. It has also taught me to
be more independent rather than dependant on other people. By
doing this stuff, it has helped me to grow physically, ready to be
a skilful man of God. I also learned to enjoy the beautiful
creation of God and know that everything I do can effect the
environment. I also learned that we are responsible for our action
and that God has put us in charge of His creation and we must take
good care of it.
The Royal
Ranger program has been a blessing to me. Now I am better equipped
both spiritually and in other area to be a better person for
Christ.
