My name is Lam Kah Meng. I am 18 years
old and am currently in the Expeditions Rangers. Since I join Royal
Rangers in November 1999, I have learnt many things through this
program. It has benefited me in many different aspects such as mentally,
spiritually socially and physically. Though this program I learn to be
independent in many ways and my walk with the Lord has become closer.
In the mental aspect, I used to be the type of guy who gives up easily
and always hold back when asked to do something out of my comfort zone.
I too do not take criticism very well. I easily discourage. By being in
the rangers program and attending leadership camp such as JLTC (Junior
Leadership Training Camp). I learn to preserver in everything and I can
say I can take criticism better. The Ranger’s Motto helps too. It says
to always be ready. To me criticism is not something that brings me down
but something I can learn from and build myself up.
Through the bible studies that were conducted in rangers, I too learn
God’s Word more deeply on top of the message that is preached on Sunday
service and I am able to make decision wisely. This is because the bible
studies that were done in rangers are applicable to teen’s life and the
problem teen’s face. Plus being around my fellow rangers helps me
practice good Christian conduct because I am in the midst of wholesome
Christian environment. Besides that I know the commanders are there to
help any Ranger boy in times of need. Through obeying to ranger code
‘spiritual’ I am able to grow spiritually.
The rangers program also has help me tremendously in my social life. I
used to be a timid person but through the Golden Rule Matt 7:12 I am
able to communicate with people more openly. Matt 7:12 says that we
should do to others what we would have them to do to us. Though the
meaning is vast, in this situation it helps me by pushing me to make the
move and be a friend and not wait for others to be ours. Through
understanding the rangers code ‘Clean’ I too learn to able to choose the
correct words to speak.
By participating in the rangers activities, I learn to be more of an
outdoor kind of person. Merits such as camping, swimming, rock climbing,
rope craft, etc truly enhance my way of living and has help me view life
in a different perspective. I find it amazing the there are many thing
that are easier to do than to way I used to do thing. The best thing is
I obtain most of this skills form rangers. By doing this kind of stuff,
it has helped me to grow physically, ready to be a skilful man of God.
This Royal Rangers program has been a great
blessing to me. Now I can say that I am ready to take up the challenge
of adulthood with the skill that is in hand. I can say I am much more
prepared compared to these of my school friends. By just reciting the
Ranger’s pledge, |
