My name is Samuel
Soong. I am 15 years old. I followed the Royal Rangers for a mission
trip to Bintulu, Sarawak in March 2004. It was a fun trip though it was
a mission trip...
The 4 days included
camping with the Royal Rangers Outpost Sarawak #1 in Similajau National
Park Bintulu. The Outpost was established last year but they have never
had a Royal Rangers camp before so we went there to help them to conduct
their first camp. |

When I arrived at the
airport I was quite nervous cause I didn’t know anyone there and was chosen
to be the first to share my testimony at their youth meeting (in Bahasa
Malaysia)! The plans went well and my testimony also passed… the people were
very friendly, thank God.
The next day after church we
move to the campsite at the Similajau National Park, with the
Missionettes. We thought the Rangers to pitch tents and camp skills. I
thank God that I was able to see the sunset and took some photos for my
family. We were able to see sunset because our campsite was beside the
beach, it was cooling and relaxing too.

At
night after everything was done we went to see the crocodiles that were
suppose to be in the river but it was disappointing cause we didn’t see any
but some guys stopped by and told us some story about the crocodiles in the
area. He also
said that when we shine the flash |

lights and see a
reflection of red dot it is the crocodile’s eye. |

Monday was a busy day because we had activities like rope craft, tool craft,
fire craft and cooking where they had to cook their own lunch. It was a nice
aluminum foil lunch though it was only chicken with carrots, potatoes and a
bit of onions.
In
the afternoon, we had games. We played captain ball and tug of war & had
much fun. After the game, the team built a large fire for the ‘Council Of
Fire’. The fire was built next to the beach which was cooling because of the
wind blowing, and they were lots of woods & logs to be found beside the
beach.
Everything went well
at the ‘Council Of Fire’. Everyone group presented skits and songs including
the missionettes… It was a happy night for them and also for us because we
were having the ‘Council Of Fire’ with new friends. After that we had the
same plans like last night to see the crocodiles, but this time we saw a red
dot! We weren’t sure if it was a crocodile… |

Before returning to
Bintulu, we went to visit Ranger Samuel's longhouse. This was the first time
we had been in a longhouse.

This trip was one of
the best trip I have had because I got to know new friends, overcame my
fears and was blessed. I really thank God. |

I am Samuel Yee and I
thank God for the Royal Rangers mission trip to Bintulu, Sarawak. This
was my first mission trip. On the first day of our mission trip, we
attended their youth service. I was touched by the way they worshipped
God. Despite of the small numbers of youth, they sang with all their
hearts and I really enjoyed the worship session.
On Sunday, we attended the Iban and the English service. The message
shared by Senior Commander Jim Guneratnam has

not only opened the hearts of the congregation
but mine as well. Many people responded to the altar call. I saw hearts
opened to God and those at their seats worshipping God. This has really
touched me. As I sat down and prayed, I felt the presence of the Lord.

Later in the afternoon, we headed for the camp.
I thank God that we reached our campsite safely and the weather was good.
Besides the Royal Rangers, the Missionettes also went for the camp. We had a
wonderful barbeque dinner prepared by the Missionettes. That night, we had
praise and worship led by one of the Royal Rangers. Everyone had their
hearts prepared to worship God. Each patrol then presented their song and
yell. They were very creative. |
|
|
|
|
|
On the second day, all the Royal Rangers boys
looked energetic and excited as there were programmes planned for them.
These programmes were cooking, fire craft, rope craft and tool craft. That
night, we had a council of fire for the Royal Rangers and Missionettes.
Everyone was excited with their song, yell and skit ready to be presented.
They also enjoyed the lighting of the campfire as they had never seen a
council fire before. Commander Jim shared a message and I was happy to see
that everyone responded to the altar call. |

On Tuesday, we had the last teaching session on
compass. After that everyone went for a hike. At the end of the trail, we
reached a rest place where we had a beautiful view of the coast. Just by
looking at the view, it gave me the assurance that our God is great and
mighty. As the camp was coming to an end, everyone packed up, had lunch and
ready to go. |

When we reached back at the church, we helped to
unload boxes and equipment from the bus. After everyone went home, we had a
good rest at the church before heading to the airport to catch our flight.
We had a good journey home despite of a delay. I am thankful that I went for
this mission trip. Indeed this mission trip has changed and helped me in my
daily walk with God. I hope that in the near future, I will be able to go
for more mission trips. May God’s name be glorified. |

My name is Lam Kah Meng.
This is my testimony from the mission trip to Bintulu, Sarawak on 13–16
March 2004. This trip has been a great blessing to me and it has touched
me in many ways. The day before I went to Bintulu, I was really worried
and did not know what to expect. I prayed to God that He will touch me,
speak to me and guide me when I was there. I also prayed for God to show
me His plan in my life. |
|
|
|
|
|
When we arrived in Bintulu we were warmly
welcome by the Pastor and a church member. I was pleasantly surprise that
they spoke fluently English. My fears were partly gone until the Pastor told
us that the most of the congregation did not speak English. I began to worry
again. So I prayed to God for guidance because I am not very fluent in
speaking Bahasa Malaysia.
During the youth service, I did not
understand a word they were saying because it was in Iban. Though I was
struggling to understand what they were trying to say, I opened my heart to
God none the less and felt God presence around me. It was an encouragement
to me that God made His presence real in this mission trip. |
|
|
|
|
|
The next day, I was yearning for God will show
me the way in my studies in the near future. Before this mission trip, I had
doubts whether to take Form 6 or A-Level. This is because all my friends
will be taking A-Level and I will become very lonely if I take Form 6. I was
really bless by Senior Commander Jim’s message which encouraged me to stand firm to what I believe and to what God wants me
to do. I was grateful that God spoke to me through the message. |

During the three day camp in the national park,
I got to know the Bintulu Royal Rangers a little closer. They were very warm
and open to me. I thank God for giving me the opportunity to interact with
them freely. I also manage to taste their food and I thank God for it.
Though the food there was a bit unusual, well I guess it’s just their
culture. Through eating together, the campfire, activities and the fun games
we played I manage not just to know the people there better but also know my
own team members better. During the time of fellowship with the individual
patrols, I was glad to know that God is working in the lives of the youths
there. This became real to me though the stories of their lives in school
and at home. I trust the Lord has great plans for them as He has for me.

Lastly I want to thank God for good weather and
for a safe journey to and from Bintulu. I also want to thank the church for
sponsoring my mission trip. It has been a great blessing to me and it has
opened my eyes to what missions is like. I truly enjoy this trip. All glory
is to God. |
